Angwin Real Estate is part of the First American Viticultural Area of the Napa Valley
In 1984, the U.S. government recognized Howell Mountain as the first American Viticultural Region of the Napa Valley. That fact alone may top the list of significant reasons that Angwin real estate is considered such a valuable find in diverse offerings of Napa Valley real estate. Angwin's boundaries overlap a significant portion of the Howell Mountain AVA. Its roughly 1000 resident cherish the rural feel of the town, and even famously enlisted Robert Redford to lead the charge against development efforts many considered thoughtless and ill-conceived. You will fully appreciate the desire to preserve Angwin when you travel up its scenic winding roads that open onto some of the most prized vistas, sunny plateaus with a diversity of many well-known wineries.

We often like to make an initial differentiation amongst our premium wine country clients: Those that seek the openness of the valley floor aesthetics of the Napa Valley (or Sonoma's many valley locations); and those that yearn for the unspoiled privacy of a luxurious, wooded mountain retreat. You will find plenty of both under the broad category of Napa Valley real estate, but Angwin sits apart as a paradigm of the woodsy getaway, with the occasional opportunities for vacant land that can be converted into premium vineyard. Angwin has some nice mixed terrain that on a single parcel can offer both an open valley aesthetic along with plenty of wooded seclusion. A little History on Angwin
Angwin is famous for its high concentration of Seventh Day Adventists. It's Pacific Union college, founded by the Seventh Day Adventists over 100 years ago, is world renowned as center of learning. Angwin does not have much of a business district--a gas station and a few stores--nothing equating to a town center. You may call it ironic that many of the residents who eschew alcohol completely, live in one of the most highly sought after regions (Howell Mountain) for producing amazingly rich and robust cabernet sauvignons and merlots.
Angwin Real Estate Benefits from Proximity to Saint Helena; They're Neighbors
Another fact worth noting about Angwin is its proximity to a more famous close neighbor, Saint Helena. Angwinites live minutes to the east and slightly north of Saint Helena, and frequently wonder what all the fuss is about. When you deign to descend from your mountain perch in Angwin and sample some of the finest food in America, you are a stone's throw from the excellent restaurants and wineries of Saint Helena. This makes Angwin real estate the perfect choice for those seeking privacy and proximity.
Finally, if you want to take it up a notch on the rural scale, continue east of Angwin to the area known as Chiles and Pope Valley, another recognized AVA, with its own unique charm and freedom from the hustle.
Note that if you are interested in Angwin real estate, you should also search the down of Deer Park which is a miniscule census designated area that is sandwiched between Saint Helena and Angwin. Folks often refer to Angwin and Deer Park in the same breath. Deer park has the same woodsy feel of Angwin and often has phenomenal properties on the market, but less frequently.
